Join us to the OpenSolaris Event in Toulouse, France, on October 13, 2008

It's been more than two years now that a new wonder appeared in the Computer World. Everybody discovered it from his own little corner: for some, there is a new prefix in front of the name of their every day OS, others have heard about a kernel that could bring a cloud over a well-known penguin (even though clouds are so unlikely with such a name...)

This asteroid attracted a lot of attention, and got written about, or rather, blogged about around the world. From a mathematical debate (or was it physical? This isn't clear...) on the maximum capacity of ZFS, to varied benchmarks trying to make a lot about nothing, and not forgetting new semantics, a Sun Microsystems specialty - what a fuss!

Have you had enough time to sort that out, order those information to understand what it means for your job, your company?

On October 13, GUSES first offers to walk you around it as a starter: what is this OpenSolaris thing? A close relative to penguins, or a star like the sun? What about all those new words with a 'Z' around it (ZFS, Zone, Zontainer - sorry, Container.) Actual innovation, or tricky illusion?

Then, once we've settled this once and for all, we'll introduce you to 4 of the OpenSolaris offspring, 4 distributions, as they're called in computerland. Or rather, we'll let our guests - all from this planet, all from different timezones - tell you how and why their infants came to life, and what they brought to the community.

And last, to end with a special treat, an installfest will allow all of you to touch and feel this stellar object.

The cherry on the top of it all, this will happen in Toulouse, France, the cradle of the "Aéropostale" pioneers, the pink city in the heart of southwestern France, between sea and mountain, rose and violet... A gastronomical heaven, where dessert will always follow cheese...
